Plan P

Project type

App Design

Plan P

Plan P is a mobile application designed for urban users who struggle to maintain healthy indoor plants. Many plant owners face recurring environmental challenges — inadequate light exposure, incorrect watering balance, unsuitable soil conditions, unstable humidity levels, and temperature fluctuations. These variables often lead to plant stress, disease, and eventual loss.

By analyzing location-specific environmental data and contextual factors, Plan P transforms plant care from guesswork into a structured, informed process that supports not only plant survival but long-term plant health and quality growth.

The Problem

Indoor plant cultivation is increasingly popular, yet most users lack environmental awareness. Existing plant care apps rely on generic advice and fail to account for real indoor environmental conditions such as light availability, humidity variation, and temperature stability.

As a result, plants often deteriorate despite regular care.

Design Objective

To create a system that:
• Prevents plant loss
• Supports sustainable plant health
• Organizes environmental variables into a readable structure
• Reduces cognitive overload through visual clarity

Design Strategy

Plan P was developed as a problem-based environmental system, not a reminder-driven app.

Plant care is categorized into key environmental variables:
• Light
• Water
• Soil
• Humidity
• Temperature

Instead of asking “When should I water?”, the system identifies
“What environmental condition is affecting the plant?”

Environmental complexity is translated into:
• Structured visual hierarchy
• Icon-based navigation
• Layered information architecture
• Clear environmental categorization

System Architecture
1. User onboarding
2. Location input
3. Environmental data analysis
4. Personalized plant recommendation
5. Structured plant profile
6. Problem-based diagnosis flow
7. Archive & tracking system

Core Features

• Location-Based Plant Recommendations
• Suggests plants aligned with the user’s environmental conditions.
• Environmental Condition Insights
• Provides feedback on light, humidity, soil, and temperature suitability.
• Plant Health & Disease Identification
• Helps users diagnose plant stress through environmental filtering.
• Visual Care Guidance
• Illustrated guidance for watering and soil management.
• Plant Archive
• Tracks current and past plants for long-term monitoring.
• Structured Plant Profiles
• Detailed environmental breakdowns for each plant.

Profile Ecosystem

The profile section expands the system into an educational platform:
• Articles — curated plant care content
• Documents — structured guides
• Experts — professional plant care insights
• Saved — bookmarked plants and resources

Interface & Information Design

The interface prioritizes clarity and reduced cognitive load. Organic visual cues support intuitive navigation, while structured typographic hierarchy ensures critical plant conditions are easily readable.

Information is layered progressively, allowing users to access deeper insights without overwhelming the primary interface.

User Testing & Iteration

28 participants tested the prototype.

Key insights:
• 92% valued care guidance
• 81% found diagnosis filtering helpful
• 76% appreciated location-based personalization

Based on feedback:
• Layout hierarchy redesigned
• Navigation simplified
• Archive system added
• Experts and educational content integrated

Outcome

Plan P evolved into a structured environmental plant care system that translates complex plant care variables into clear visual guidance.

The project demonstrates integration of user-centered design, information hierarchy, and visual system thinking to create a functional and scalable digital product.
